UA Men's Tennis Falls To Boise State, 4-1, In First Round Of The NCAA Championships

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 34 Arizona men's tennis team fell to No. 35 Boise State Saturday, by a score of 4-1. The loss finishes Arizona's season with a record of 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the Pac-10. Boise State earned the doubles point, and clinched the match with three victories in singles competition.

In doubles play, Boise State earned victories on courts one and three. Freshman Roger Matalonga and sophomore Colin O'Grady earned a doubles victory over Nils Klemann and Thomas Schoeck, 8-4. After breaking a 2-2 tie, Matalonga and O'Grady won six of the next eight games to earn the first doubles victory. The pair of freshman Daniel Andrus and Junior Carl Hagman fell to Mahmoud Rezk and Matias Silva on court three, 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for Boise State was Marcus Berntson and Guillaume Bouvier, who defeated junior Whi Kim and sophomore Paul Warkentin, 8-7. Tied at 7-7, Arizona committed too many unforced errors, which lead Boise State's pair to the victory.

In single competition, Matalonga improved to 13-7 on the season by defeating Nils Klemann on court four, 6-0, 6-2. On court two, Carl Hagman fell to Guillaume Bouvier, 6-2, 6-2. O'Grady lost to Matias Silva on court five, 6-2, 7-5. Clinching the match for Boise State was Mahmoud Rezk, who defeated Andrus on court six, 6-4, 6-4.
