Track & Field's Underwood & Arnold Finish Seventh in Multi-Events

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of Arizona's men's and women's track and field teams scored their first points heading into next weekend's Pac-10 Conference Championships. Amanda Underwood and Jake Arnold both finished seventh in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively. Both squads scored two points for next week's conference championships.
Underwood held on to her seventh-place standing from the first day of competition. Sunday's action began with the long jump, where she finished with a best leap of 15-11 ï¿½ (4.87m). In the javelin throw, she threw for 107 feet, 3 inches (32.68m). In the final event, the 800 meters, Underwood clocked a time of 2:31.35. Altogether, she finished with 4,431 points.
For the UA men, Arnold finished his first decathlon of the season with 6,834 points in his seventh-place finish. He moved up two spots after the first day of competition. In the 110 meter hurdles, he clocked a time of 15.42 seconds. Arnold threw 118-0 in the discus. He was one of the top pole vaulters in the competition, clearing 15 feet, 3 inches. In the javelin, Arnold finished with a best throw of 159-4 (48.56m). In the final event, the 1,500 meters, he crossed the line at 4:39.54 to solidify his seventh-place finish.
The Wildcats will take complete squads to the Pac-10 Conference Championships in Los Angeles at USC's Cromwell Field at Loker Stadium. The meet takes place May 17-18, with events getting underway at 10 a.m. both days.
