Bad Weather Delays Completion of NCAA West Regional First Round

AUBURN, Wash. - A frost delay and three weather stoppages prevented the firstround of the NCAA West Regional men�s golf championship to finish beforedarkness at Washington National Golf Club. Only 12 of 27 teams managed tocomplete their first round of play. Denver and Oregon lead that group at7-over 295.

Heavy rains, hail and high winds hit the course three times during theafternoon to disrupt play. Only the teams seeded 16th through 27th, thatteed off in the morning, were able to complete their 18 holes after anaccumulation of four hours and 13 minutes of delays.

Oregon State�s Michael Jurgensen, Oregon�s Gregg LaVoie and Old Dominion�sChris Piercy each shot even-par 72 among the players that completed theirrounds.

The first round will concluded on Friday and will immediately be followed bythe start of the second round. The final 18 holes of the 54-hole stroke playevent will take place Saturday.

The top 10 teams and the top two individuals not attached to those teamswill advance to the NCAA Championships at Oklahoma State.

At the other NCAA regional sites, Illinois enjoys a two-stroke lead overSouthern Methodist at the Central Regional at Kansas State. The Illini shot13-under 275, two strokes better than the Mustangs. Tennessee and Georgiaare tied for the lead at the Eastern Regional at Auburn. Both teams shot7-under 281.
