Cardinal Men In 20th After Round Two Of West Regional

Auburn, Wash. - The Stanford men's golf team shot a 298 on the second day of competition at the 2003 NCAA West Regional in Auburn, Wash. and are 20th overall with a two-round score of 614. UCLA leads the field with a five-under 571 followed by Arizona (580). Rounding out the top five are New Mexico (583), UNLV (585) and Georgia (586).
Cardinal Kevin Blue carded a 71 today to move up to a tie for 37th with a 148 (77-71). Teammate Blake Mastalir also fired a 71 today and is tied for 89th overall with a 155 (84-71). Senior George Downing is tied for 94th one stroke back with a 156 (79-77) while Ron Won is tied for 114th (81-79--160). Jim Seki is tied for 125th (79-84--163).
New Mexico's Michael Letzig holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard with a five-under par 137 after shooting a 68 today. Arizona's Chris Nallen is two strokes back with a 139. Three golfers are tied for third with a 142, including UCLA's John Merrick who fired a course record 67 today.
The NCAA West Regional will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes at the Washington National Golf Course. The top 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at the end of the month.
Stanford golfers will begin teeing off from the 10th tee at 11:51 p.m. through 12:27 p.m.
