USC Men's Golf Earns Berth Into NCAA Championships

LOS ANGELES--The 21st-ranked USC men's golf team earned a trip to the 2003 NCAA Championships-its first since 2000-by finishing in a seventh place tie Saturday (May 17) at the NCAA West Regional at Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash.

The Trojans had a three-round total of 880 to finish tied with Washington, 16 strokes behind tourney champ UCLA (even par 864).

USC will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the NCAA tourney on May 27-30.

Taylor Wood was Troy's top individual, finishing with a 216 total at even par. He was tied for 12th.

USC's Ben Hayes came in at 220 to end up tied at 27th, followed by David Oh (222, tie for 36th), Nico Bollini (225, tie for 62nd) and Chris Botsford (230, tie for 85th).

New Mexico's Michael Letzig won the Pac-10 individual title with an 8-under par 208, beating runner-up Michael Putnam of Pepperdine by 2 strokes.

The Bruins edged Arizona by a stroke for the team crown.
