Three Bruins to Participate in NCAA Singles Championships

Gainesville, FL - Three UCLA women's tennis players will compete in the 2003 NCAA Singles Championship in Gainesville, FL, including senior Sara Walker and freshmen Jackie Carleton and Susi Wild. All three of their first-round matches will begin at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday.
Walker, the 12th-ranked player on the ITA's list, went 11-7 in dual matches and 20-11 overall this year, and will face Courtney Bergman of Harvard. Bergman started all three of Harvard's NCAA Tournament matches at the No. 1 position, as did Walker, and is ranked 46th in the latest ITA listings.
Carleton, the 20th-ranked player in the nation, went 13-7 in dual match play and 23-12 overall this year, and will face Courtney Nagle of Oregon. Nagle is the second-highest Oregon player on the ITA list, at No. 54. Daria Panova is at No. 15 as the highest-ranking Duck.
Wild is ranked 50th in the ITA list and will face Amanda Johnson of Duke. Johnson, the second-highest ranked Blue Devil behind Kelly McCain at No. 2, stands at No. 19 in the latest ITA poll, and faced Carleton on Friday in the NCAA Quarterfinals in a suspended match. Wild's record in 2003 was 17-8 in dual match play and 19-11 overall.
