ï¿½ Fourth-ranked and fifth-seeded Stanford will face off with top-ranked and top-seeded Illinois in the semifinals of the NCAA Men's Tennis Team Championship on Monday at 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) at the University of Georgia.
ï¿½ Stanford leads the all-time series with Illinois 4-1 dating back to 1997, but this is the first match between the two schools in the NCAA Team Championship ... The Cardinal and Fighting Illini last met on Feb. 10, 2002 in the final of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship ... Stanford won that match 4-3 to claim its 12th National Team Indoor crown.
ï¿½ This is Stanford's first NCAA Championship match against a Big Ten school since the 2000 season ... The Cardinal defeated Northwestern 4-0 in the first round and Minnesota 4-0 in the round of 16 to earn its unprecedented 17th NCAA Championship ... Stanford is 4-0 all-time in the NCAA Team Championship against the Big Ten.
ï¿½ In individual action this season, Stanford is 2-0 against Illinois in singles and 0-2 in doubles ... In singles, Cardinal senior David Martin defeated Brian Wilson 6-4, 7-5 in the consolation quarterfinals of the ITA All-American on October 12 in Chattanooga and 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3) in the first round of the Omni National Indoors on Nov. 7 in Farmers Branch, Texas ... In doubles, the Illini's Michael Calkins and Amer Delic beat Scott Lipsky and David Martin 8-5 in the final of the ITA All-American on Oct. 12 and KC Corkery and James Pade 9-8 (5) in the consolation semifinals of the Omni National Indoors on Nov. 8.
ï¿½ Stanford enters today's match will an all-time NCAA Team Championship record of 85-9 (.904) ... The Cardinal has won nine of its last 11 postseason matches dating back to 2001 and 33 of the last 36 going back to 1995.
ï¿½ Freshman KC Corkery has won 21 straight singles matches dating all the way back to Feb. 14 ... Eighteen of those 21 wins have come in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-1 victory over California's Or Dekel at No. 3 on Sunday night.
