David Martin Named ITA National Senior Co-Player of the Year

STANFORD, Calif. - After a magnificent senior campaign, David Martin (Tulsa, OK) was named this year's Farnsworth/ITA National Senior Co-Player of the Year, one of the top awards in collegiate tennis. He shared the award with Texas A&M's Ryan Newport.
Martin, a two-time All-American, is the only player in Division I men's tennis to currently be ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles. He is currently ranked eighth in singles and fourth in doubles with teammate Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY). In his final season on The Farm, he currently boasts a 34-11 singles record and a 27-9 doubles mark. Throughout the entire season, he has ranked among the nation's best in both singles and doubles play.
As the team's captain and top player in both singles and doubles, Martin helped to propel the Cardinal squad to the NCAA semifinals this season. Martin was invited to participate in both the NCAA Singles and Double Championships for the third consecutive year.
Last year Martin reached the NCAA doubles finals with Lipsky, and two years ago the same duo reached the NCAA semifinals. After both his sophomore and junior seasons, he was named an ITA All-American.
In addition, Martin was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Men'sAt-Large First-Team on Thursday. Martin is an American Studies Major with a 3.72 cumulative grade point average.
The at-large team encompasses the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling, and was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America from Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
