Wildcat Track & Field Plays Host to International Athletes at Tucson Elite Classic

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona's track and field teams will play host to the 2003 edition of the Tucson Elite Classic. This year's event will feature top-level competition from the international stage as athletes begin to prep for the USA and World Championships. The meet will take place on Saturday, May 24 at Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Action is set to begin with the women's javelin at 5 p.m.
This year's meet will feature some of the world's finest track and field athletes. Former Wildcat and USA long jump champion Brianna Glenn will be competing in the 100 meters and long jump on Saturday. Wildcat signee and USA triple jump champion Yuliana Perez will also be competing. Nick Hysong, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the pole vault, will be among the competition. Fellow Olympian Tim Harden will run in the 100 meters.
The competition will also include several Arizona athletes who are gearing up for NCAA Regional competition at Stanford on May 30-31. Competing for the Wildcats will be: Julie DeMarni (javelin), Sharifa Jones (long jump), Chelsea Powell (400m hurdles), Jeff Hunter (400m hurdles), Beth Hoge (800m, 1500m), Robert Cheseret (1500m), Jin Daikoku (1500m), Aaron Powell (1500m), Kyle Goklish (1500m), Josh Ludwig (1500m) and Mark Anderson (1500m).
