Ducks' Westendorf To Take Part In Select NCAA Leadership Conference

EUGENE -- University of Oregon sophomore LaurenWestendorf is one of 302 NCAA student-athletes who have been tabbed to take part in a conference of select current and future leaders from college campuses across the country at the seventh annual NCAA Leadership Conference May 25-29 at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The conference is designed to bring college athletes representing Division I, II and III schools nationwide together to discuss key issues involving intercollegiate athletics and enhance the leadership skills of the individual student-athletes.
The participants were selected from a group of 1,172 nominees and represent 22 different intercollegiate sports.
Westendorf was fourth on the Ducks' volleyball team in kills a year ago and fifth in service aces in her most extensive play of her collegiate career. The former Bakersfield, Calif., (Centinnial High School) standout has accumulated a 3.15 grade-point average in political science.
During the five-day event, student-athletes have the opportunity to discuss a variety of topics, including the demands and expectations of athletes within the academic environment, recruiting visits, student-athletes' off-campus behavior and responsibilities and sportsmanship. Respresentatives of the NCAA's national Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), which provides feedback to various NCAA committees that affects student walfare and policies, also will participate in the discussions.
