Lauren Barnikow Named To Academic All-District VIII Third Team

Long Beach, Calif. - Stanford junior Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge/Palmer Prep) has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's At-Large Third Team as selected by CoSIDA. Barnikow is an International Relations major with a 3.49 cumulative GPA. The at-large category includes student-athletes in the following women's sports: crew, gymnastics, skiing, fencing, ice hockey, swimming, water polo, field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, golf and rifle.

Barnikow, a member of Stanford's 2001 NCAA Championship squad, is a three-time All-American. She has twice been named to the ITA Doubles All-American squad and received the honor for her singles play in 2002. This year, she finished in the NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals along with Erin Burdette and helped the Cardinal to a second place finish in team competition.

Barnikow and Burdette were named Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year, while Barnikow also earned Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors for her singles play. The New Jersey native also earned Pac-10 Doubles Team of the Year honors as a freshman, as she and Lauren Kalvaria finished the 2001 season with a No. 2 ranking.
