Results From Day One Of NCAA West Track And Field Regionals

Day One USC Results
Note-Top five finishers from each individual final and top three from each relay finalmake it to the NCAA Championships. Those who do not qualify out of the regional can still qualify with an at-large bid to be determined after the regional is completed.
USC Men's Finals
Hammer-Junior Michael Murray qualified for the NCAAs by finishing third with a throw of 198-5 (60.47). Freshman Adam Midles took sixth with a throw of 195-6 (59.60), while senior Harrison Lee was 13th with a mark of 182-10 (55.74).
Long Jump-Sophomore Allen Simms jumped 25-5 ï¿½ to take second in the long jump and advance to the NCAAs. Simms will also compete in the triple jump tomorrow. He is the 2003 NCAA indoor triple jump champ.
High Jump- Senior Dawid Jaworski, who was the runner up at the NCAA last season, advanced to the NCAAs this season by finishing tied for third with a jump of 6-11 ï¿½.
Discus-Freshman Adam Midles finished 22nd with a mark of 162-7 and did not advance.
USC Men's Prelim Results
1500m-Freshman Tomasz Babiskiewicz moved into Saturday's finals of the 1500m after finishing fourth in heat three with a time of 3:48.42.
110m HH-Senior Ryan Wilson qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 13.90, which placed him third in heat one.
400m-Junior Brandon Matlock qualified for Saturday's final with a time of 47.35, which placed him second in heat two.
100m-Freshman Garry Jones ran 10.61 and just missed qualifying for the finals of the 100m.
800m- Freshman Raphael Asafo-Agyei won his heat of the 800m in a personal-best 1:49.27 to advance to Saturday's final. It was the fastest 800m time of the day. Sophomore Anthony Heckman ran 1:51.00 and did not advance.
USC Women's Finals
Javelin-Junior Inga Stasiulionyte-the three-time Pac-10 champion-threw 175-7 to finish second and advance to the NCAA Championships. Stasiulionyte was the 2001 NCAA javelin champion and last year's runner up.
Pole Vault- Sophomore Melissa Astete vaulted 12-10 1/4 to take 10th in the pole vault, but did not advance to the NCAAs.
Shot Put- Junior L'Orangerie Crawford advanced to the NCAA Championships by finishing fourth with a throw of 52-1 ï¿½.
Long Jump- Senior Erin Williams jumped 18-6 ï¿½ to finish 11th and did not advance to the NCAAs.
USC Women's Prelim Results
400m Relay-The USC squad of Virginia Powell, Natasha Mayers, Tracee Thomas and Miya Edmonson did not finish their race. The baton was dropped on the exchange between Mayers and Thomas. USC must now await the revised descending order list to determine if they will receive an at-large bid to the NCAAs Championships.
1500m-Senior Danielle Morrell qualified for Saturday's 1500m final by running 4:33.43 to finish fourth in heat three.
100m HH-Freshman Virginia Powell qualified for Saturday's 100m HH finals with a wind-aided personal-best of 13.24, which placed her second in heat one. It was the day's fourth-fastest qualifying time in the high hurdles.
400m-Senior Nakiya Johnson took second in heat one in a time of 54.02 to move into Saturday's 400m final.
100m-Four Women of Troy sprinters qualified for Saturday's 100m final. Senior Natasha Mayers ran the field's fastest time at 11.21, while freshman Virginia Powell equaled her personal best with a time of 11.52. Junior Miya Edmonson also qualified while running a personal best (11.60), as did sophomore Alexis Weatherspoon (11.63).
400m IH- Freshman Tunisia Johnson ran 60.54 to take third in heat two of the 400m IH and did not advance to the final.
5000m- Senior Brooke Thomas finished 18th in a time of 17:15.32 and did not advance.
