SKILLMAN, N.J. - Three Washington women's tennis players were named to the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America Team, the ITA announced May 30.
Sophomore Dea Sumantri, junior Claire Carter and senior Darija Klaic were among the 43 NCAA Div. I women who met the criteria for ITA All-America honors. This year marked the first time that three Huskies earned All-America acclaim in a single season.
Sumantri (Jakarta, Indonesia) earned her first career All-America honor by advancing to the NCAA Singles Round of 16. Sumantri finished the season with a national singles ranking of No. 29 and an overall record of 30-9, just two wins shy of tying the UW season record for wins in a season.
Carter (Nottingham, England) became UW's second three-time All-American, while doubles partner Klaic (Zupanja, Croatia) earned her second All-America certificate. The duo ended the 2003 season with a final national ranking of 10th and a 26-13 overall record.
