11 Cal Baseball Players Named to Pac-10 All-Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, CA - The University of California baseball program had 11 players selected to the 2003 Pac-10 All-Academic Team, it was announced today by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.
First team Pac-10 All-Academic selections from Cal included junior right-hander Matt Brown (3.27 GPA in economics), junior shortstop Jeff Dragicevich (3.28 GPA in business administration), senior infielder/outfielder Nick Medrano (3.48 GPA in architecture) and junior right-hander Blake Read (3.38 GPA in English).
The Bears had three players earn second team Pac-10 All-Academic honors - sophomore right-hander Jesse Ingram (3.34 GPA undeclared), junior first baseman/third baseman Conor Jackson (3.13 GPA theater and performance studies) and senior outfielder Brad Smith (3.19 GPA American studies).
Four more Cal players were among the Pac-10 honorable mention All-Academic list - sophomore infielder/catcher Matt Einspahr, sophomore right-hander Brent Hale, junior right fielder Brian Horwitz and junior outfielder David Weiner.
The 11 Pac-10 All-Academic recipients from the Bears' baseball program increases the total number of Cal athletes to earn either Pac-10 or Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic honors to 179 for the 2002-03 academic year.
