Keegan Fitzgerald To Join Gymnastics Team This Fall
June 26, 2003
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Keegan Fitzgerald will attend Oregon State University and compete for the gymnastics team beginning this fall, coach Tanya Chaplin announced Thursday.
A two-time USAG Junior Olympic national qualifier, the 5-2 Fitzgerald (Beaverton, Ore./Westview High School) has won Oregon state championships on beam and all-around during her five years at Level 10.
'Keegan is a great addition to the Oregon State gymnastics program. She has shown outstanding ability on bars and beam and has the potential to make the lineup on those events,' Chaplin said. 'She's an excellent student and wonderful individual, and we are excited to have her join the team in the fall.'
Fitzgerald was the Oregon beam champion in 1999 and 2000, and she also took top honors in the all-around in 1999.
In 2001, she placed second on bars and third in the all-around at the Level 10 regional championships, earning a trip to the J.O. nationals for the second year in a row. She was third on floor at the 2002 regional meet.
Fitzgerald, who trains at the Multnomah Athletic Club with coaches Meg Doxtator and Ivan Alexov, did not compete at the state, regional or national meets this year because of a knee injury.
In addition to her gymnastics accomplishments, Fitzgerald was the valedictorian of her high school class, which had nearly 600 students.
