Ricky Barnes Misses Cut at Barclays Scottish Open
July 11, 2003
TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's golfer Ricky Barnes carded a five-over-par 76 in Friday's second round of the Barclays Scottish Open, which dropped him into a tie for 80th place.
Barnes, one of just three amateurs in the field of 155, posted a 37-39=76 (+5) total at Loch Lomond, Scotland, to settle for a two round total of 146 (+4). His 36-hole tally fell one stroke shy of making the cut.
Barnes fell 15 strokes off the pace set by current leader Ernie Els, who shot a four-under 67 Friday and stands at 11-under 131 after 36 holes. Loch Lomond is a par-71, 7,095-yard layout.
The missed cut is the first for Barnes in four professional tour appearances this season. He had previously tied for 18th place at the Chrysler Classic of Tucson, finished 21st at The Masters and tied for 59th at the 2003 U.S. Open.
Barnes' overseas odyssey continues through next week, as he is scheduled to compete in the 132nd British Open, July 17-20 in Sandwich, England.
