Perkins and Kuehl Claim Silver Medals at Pan Am Junior Championships

The University of Arizona track and field teams were represented by two freshmen at the 2003 Pan Am Junior Championships this past weekend in Barbados. The meet took place July 18-20 in Bridgetown, Barbados. Angel Perkins represented Team USA in the 400 meters and the 4x400 meter relay, while Adam Kuehl threw the discus for the USA men.
Perkins looked to be in top form as she took to the track for her preliminary race. In the second of two heats, Perkins claimed the win in 53.60 seconds, the third fastest qualifying time. In the finals, she sped to a time of 52.76 seconds, finishing second and claiming the silver medal. She finished behind teammate Stephanie Smith, who finished in 52.52 seconds.
Adam Kuehl continued his dominance on the world stage in junior competition with a silver medal in the men's discus. Kuehl threw a distance of 181 feet, 9 inches to claim the runner-up finish.
Team USA dominated the medal counts, winning a combined 48 medals among the men's and women's teams. The next closest was Jamaica with 15 medals.
