Five ASU Women's Swimmers And Divers Earn Academic All-American Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State women's swimming and diving team placed five of its members on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-American teams. Additionally the entire women's squad, by virtue of their collective 3.29 grade point average, exceeded the 'superior' standard set by the CSCAA, the highest level a team can achieve.
Earning first-team Academic All-American honors were Sandra Steffensen (4.00, Recreation), Kathryn Hennessy (3.60, Pre-Business), Florencia Szigeti (3.60, Pre-Business) and ï¿½gnes Kovï¿½cs (3.53, Pre-Business). Jessica Stenson earned Honorable Mention Academic All-American honors (4.00, Elementary Education).
To be considered for the CSCAA Academic All-American team, a student-athlete must qualify to participate at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and carry at least a 3.5 GPA during the current semester, during the current academic year or cumulatively for his or her academic career. An individual is eligible for Honorable Mention consideration if he or she attains the same GPA requirements as above while attaining an NCAA 'B' consideration time during the season.
The Sun Devils open their 2003-04 season with the annual intrasquad meet on October 3 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
