Tab Perry Will Not Play In 2003

July 31, 2003

UCLA senior wide receiver Tab Perry will miss the 2003 football season, it was announced today.

Perry is not eligible to compete this season because he did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements. Due to federal and state privacy laws, UCLA can make no further comment on this issue.

Perry has indicated that he will redshirt this season and plans to return for the 2004 season.

'Obviously, losing a player of Tab's caliber is a blow to the team, but we have to move on,' said head coach Karl Dorrell. 'The other wide receivers in the program will have to fill the void.'

In addition, Perry will have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He indicated that his shoulder has bothered him for several months and that he was hopeful that the injury would heal with treatment. However, since he can not play in 2003, he decided to have the surgery so he can be at full strength in 2004.
