Arizona State Picked Seventh In Preseason Pac-10 Coaches Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) - The Arizona State Sun Devil volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the preseason Pac-10 Head Coaches Poll. Defending national champion USC was chosen to defend its conference crown, receiving 90 total points in the vote.
Stanford, Arizona, UCLA, California and Washington rank ahead of the Sun Devils in the annual preseason poll, while Washington State, Oregon State and Oregon complete the rankings. ASU also finished the 2002 season seventh in the Pac-10 going 15-12 overall and 8-10 in league play.
First-year head coach Brad Saindon inherits a program that has advance to the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four years (1999, 2000, 2002) and returns eight letterwinners and six starters. Key returning starters include first-team All-Pac-10 outside hitter Juliana Escobar (4.27 kpg, 3.36 dpg) and senior setter Cheryl Anglin.
The Sun Devils break preseason camp starting tomorrow (August 7th) with preseason practices beginning Friday. ASU will host the annual Maroon and Gold match on Saturday, August 23 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. The Devils officially open the 2003 season with the Sun Devil Volleyball Classic hosting Utah, San Diego and Ohio Aug. 29-30. ASU faces perennial national power Utah in the season opener on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.
