Volleyball To Host Annual Coaches Clinic August 23rd
Aug. 13, 2003
TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Area volleyball coaches from all levels (club, high school) are invited to a free coaches clinic conducted by Arizona State head coach Brad Saindon on August 23, 2003 at Wells Fargo Arena. The clinic will run all day and conclude with the annual Maroon and Gold scrimmage at 5 p.m.
Saindon begins his first year at the helm of the Sun Devil program after spending the last six years coaching on the international level. Most recently, he was an assistant coach for the USA Men's Volleyball program and before that coached the Australian National Women's program in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. No stranger to the collegiate game, Saindon started the University of Colorado women's program in 1986 and led the Buffalos to six NCAA Tournament appearances and was named the Big Eight Conference Coach of the Year three times.
The clinic is held to familiarize local coaches with the collegiate game and teach some of Saindon's methods and philosophies that will be new to the ASU program in 2003. Following an open practice from 9-11 a.m., a classroom seminar will be held at 12:30-2 p.m. On court demonstrations (2-3:30 p.m.) and a facility tour (3:30-4:30 p.m.) will lead up to the Maroon and Gold scrimmage. The scrimmage was previously planned for 7 p.m., but has been changed to 5 p.m., and will be held at Wells Fargo Arena. Admission to the clinic and Maroon and Gold scrimmage are both free of charge.
