Volleyball Team To Scrimmage On Friday
Aug. 19, 2003
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball team will scrimmage on Friday in Gill Coliseum. The team will begin warming up at 2 p.m., and the scrimmage should begin around 2:30.
The scrimmage will be the team's second this fall, with the Beavers holding their first one this past Saturday.
'We started with fairly even teams and wanted to get a look at different people at some different spots,' coach Nancy Somera said of the first fall scrimmage. 'We wanted to get our core passers working together, but since it was only a week into the fall, we're still trying to figure out who those are.'
Somera was pleased with what she saw from her team on Saturday.
'We looked good. We had explosive movement, our defense was good and I liked our serving,' she said.
As for this week, Somera said the Beavers will look at the video from last week's scrimmage and work on blocking and refining the offense before Friday's scrimmage.
'I'd like us to move into a starting lineup and get comfortable with a substitution pattern this week. I also want both setters to get a good look on Friday,' she said.
The Beavers officially open the season with the annual OSU Volleyball Showcase on August 29-30 in Gill Coliseum. OSU kicks off the tournament with a 5 p.m. match against Gonzaga on Friday, with Saturday's action including OSU matches against Mississippi State at 10 a.m. and Northern Arizona at 7:30 p.m.
