Beavers Sweep Mississippi State To Improve To 2-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State volleyball team hit .449 to pick up a 3-0 sweep over Mississippi State in the second day of action at the OSU Volleyball Showcase on Saturday morning. The Beavers defeated the Bulldogs, 30-10, 30-12 and 30-20.
Allison Lawrence turned in her second double-double in as many matches, this time hitting .542 with team-highs of 14 kills and 12 digs. Anne Watts-Roberts hit .565 with 13 kills, and Karah Rhoades chipped in eight kills on .636 hitting and added 10 digs. Laura Collins dished out 34 assists and hit .714 with five kills.
'We played a lot looser and smarter today. We tried to keep our expectations to things we could control,' said coach Nancy Somera. 'We made some system changes, and we executed the fundamentals better.'
The Beavers will face Northern Arizona in the Showcase's final match, set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The winner of that match will win the tournament, as the Lumberjacks enter the evening with a 2-0 record after defeating Gonzaga in three games in the other Saturday morning match.
Gonzaga and Mississippi State will play at 5:30 p.m.
