Arizona Football Teleconference Quotes

On the win over UTEP Saturday night:
'There were a lot of good things in the game, but we had a ton of first-game mistakes. We have to get those corrected this week.'
'I was very pleased with the play of both Nic (Costa) and Ryan (O'Hara). I thought that Nic had a nice feel for the game and what was going on. He did some good things early on that really helped us take control of the game. For Ryan, it was his first game, and he had a chance to get in on the action. He was not as good from a numbers standpoint, but he needed to get in there. I expect that they will practice the same way this week, and I expect both of them to play next week.'
'Our quarterbacks were able to get out of the pocket last night and scramble. They did a good job of keeping us from getting any losses back there.'
On the offensive line and running backs:
'The offensive linemen and the running backs did a credible job of picking up the rushes. I am pleased that we didn't give up any sacks all night.'
'The running backs made some great plays. Mike Bell had some nice runs, and it is good to see that he is stronger and more confident in his running ability. Clarence Farmer had an excellent run when he scored the touchdown. Chris Henry looked good in his first game, and he showed some power.'
On the defense's performance versus UTEP:
'After looking at the tape, we missed a lot of tackles, so we really have to work on that and improve for next week. We had people flying to the ball, but we still had too many missed tackles.'
On the special teams:
'We had a turnover on special teams with the fumble recovery on the punt, which set up one of our touchdowns. It was a great play for us, and it was good that we were able to capitalize on that.'
On UA's next opponent - LSU:
'They have great speed on both sides of the ball. They have bump-and-run coverage, and their corners are excellent athletes. They also have quarterbacks who move around really well.'
On Arizona's success in the scoring zone:
'We were 4-for-4 last night, but it is going to be much harder this week. LSU's defense is fast, active, and it doesn't give up a lot of points. We will be tested this week if we can get down there (in the scoring zone).'
