MILAN, Italy - -
Former Oregon State men's rower Joey Hansen helped the United States men's eight to a silver medal Sunday at the 2003 World Rowing Championships on Lake Idroscalo.
The men's eight was one of three U.S. boats to claim a medal; the men's four with coxswain won gold and the men's pair earned a bronze.
A strong sprint over the last 500 meters closed the U.S. eight within a second of the victorious Canadian boat. The U.S. finished in 6:01.46; Great Britain took the bronze medal.
Hansen, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., was a three-time first-team All-Pacific-10 pick at OSU before graduating in 2001. He is a three-year member of the U.S. National Team.
