PAC-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UCLA senior forward Matt Taylor has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 26-Sept. 1.
Taylor, from Irvine, Calif., was named Offensive MVP of the Cal State Fullerton Soccer Town Classic, as the Bruins defeated No. 16/No. 7 Penn State 5-2 and shut out Ohio State 1-0.
Taylor recorded a hat trick in the come-from-behind victory over the Nittany Lions on Aug. 29. It marked his second consecutive hat trick against Penn State, having accomplished the feat in the NCAA Quarterfinals last season. With top-ranked UCLA trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Taylor scored his first goal. He added two more in the first 10 minutes of the second half to account for the go-ahead and game-winning goals.
Taylor has scored seven goals and added two assists in his last five games, dating back to last season.
This is the second weekly honor for Taylor and the 15th all-time Player of the Week honor for UCLA.
ALSO NOMINATED: Robbie Findley, Fr F, OSU; Leo Tetov, So MF, WASH.

CALIFORNIA: The bears host the Cal Legacy Classic this week, with Old Dominion and Cal State Fullerton visiting Berkeley. Stanford also takes part in the tournament. FRESNO STATE: The Bulldogs take a week off from the regular season slate for their annual alumni game Sunday at 5 p.m. Fresno State heads back on the road next week, when it travels to the Notre Dame Berticelli Memorial Tournament. The Bulldogs have been shut out in their first two matches to open the season for the first time since 1977. Fresno State has never been blanked in its first three matches of a season.
OREGON STATE: FR F Robbie Findley notched three points in Oregon State's 2-1 win at San Diego on Aug. 31. He scored the tying goal and assisted on the game-winner. It was OSU's first win over USD in the four-game series, dating back to 1997. The Beavers also lost 2-1 in OT at San Diego State. The Beavers travel to Sacramento State for a contest on Thursday, then meet up with in-state rival Portland on Sunday.
STANFORD: The Cardinal opens the regular season Friday against Cal State Fullerton in the Cal Legacy Classic. Stanford, the 2002 NCAA runner-up, returns eight starters and a total of 16 letterwinners this season. Lone seniors M/D Abe Geiger and M/D Mike Wilson each started 25 games apiece last season. JR GK Robby Fulton led the nation and posted a Stanford single-season record with a 0.43 goals against average in 2002.
UCLA: SR F Matt Taylor was named Offensive MVP of the Cal State Fullerton Soccer Town Classic, as the Bruins defeated No. 16 Penn State 5-2 and shut out Ohio State 1-0.
