Cougar Tennis Trio Ranked To Open Season

PULLMAN, Wash. - Three tennis players from Washington State are listed on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings.

Orsolya Sallai, who played in the No. 1 singles slot for the Cougars last season, is No. 78. In 2002-03 Sallai recorded 20 wins, including a victory against No. 18 Daria Panova of Oregon. Sallai has 40 wins as a Cougar going into her junior year.

The Washington State tandem of Lorena Arias and Chris Martinez is No. 41 nationally. The Arias/Martinez duo recorded 18 victories last season making their career win count 37. Highlights of last season included victories over No. 29 Colalillo/Engel of Arizona State and No. 30 Hojnik/Wink of Georgia.

'I am very excited to have three players in the ITA preseason rankings,' WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'It is a good indication of how strong our program is at WSU.'

The Cougar tennis team will open its season with the Cougar Classic Tournament September 19-20 at the Stadium Way Tennis Center.
