Olivia Waldowski notched nine kills, five service aces and seven blocks as the seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos defeated the University of San Diego, 3-0, tonight in the final match of the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif. Game scores were 30-27, 30-18, 30-23.
UCSB improves to 2-2 on the year while the Toreros fall to 3-2.
For the Gauchos, Erica Menzel had nine kills and 10 digs while teammate Megan Blackshire chipped in eight kills and five blocks. Setter Mari Bell added 40 assists, seven digs and four blocks on the night. Emily Hendrickson had eight kills, five digs and five blocks as well.
The Toreros were led by Christie Dawson's 12 kills and four blocks. Teammate Devon Forester chipped in 10 kills and seven digs on the evening while Kristen Hurst added nine kills and seven digs. Cassie Wolpern and Lindsey Sherburne led the squad with eight digs each.
UCSB hit .277 for the match while USD hit .146 on the night.
The Gauchos Olivia Waldowski was named to the all-tournament team. Also named to the all-tournament team were Aury Cruz (Florida), Sherri Williams (Florida), Ogonna Nnamani (Stanford) and Jennifer Harvey (Stanford). Benavia Jenkins of Florida was tabbed MVP.
