The Washington State volleyball program added a home tournament this season...the Cougar Mania Invitational will make its debut Sept. 12-13 at Bohler Gym...Cougar Mania is the corporate sponsorship division of WSU Athletics...teams joining Washington State (1-5) include New Mexico (3-3), Saint Louis (2-6*), and No. 22 Loyola Marymount (7-0*)

General admission tickets for the Cougar Mania Tournament will be sold at the Bohler Gym ticket window beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. Saturday...Friday, all tickets are $1 and all concession items will be just $1...Saturday, the cost is $5 per adult and $3 for youth and seniors per session with the sessions comprising matches Saturday morning and Saturday evening...WSU students will be admitted free of charge with valid student ID.

Washington State left Salt Lake City empty-handed in the win column, losing to host Utah 3-2, No. 18 Missouri 3-0, and Utah Valley State 3-2...Cougar senior Zanda Bautre was named to the all-tournament team after recording double-figure kills and digs in all three matches...Bautre tallied 46 kills (3.54 kpg, .235 hpct) and 35 digs (2.69 dpg), scoring 3.88 ppg...sophomore setter Brenn Larson, a 2002 Pac-10 All-Freshman team selection, did not make the trip to Utah...she is recovering from a high ankle sprain...WSU lost to tournament champions Utah 30-27, 25-30, 29-31, 34-32, 16-14, Friday night...Saturday morning No. 18. Missouri defeated the Cougs 30-28, 31-29, 30-25, and that night Utah Valley State downed WSU 30-26, 23-30, 30-32, 30-16, 15-11.

Head coach Cindy Fredrick is in her 15th season on the Palouse...her record at WSU is 270-180 (.600) while her overall collegiate record is 356-237 (.600) in 19 years...assistant coaches are her husband, Dr. Mashallah Farokhmanesh (15th year), and former Cougar standout, Jen Greeny (fourth year)...three-time All-Pac-10 first team selection La Toya Harris is serving as an undergraduate assistant coach this season.

For 13 consecutive seasons, WSU has won its season-opening match...this is the first time in WSU Head Coach Cindy Fredrick's 15 years the Cougars have lost five consecutive non-conference matches.

Sophomore setter Brenn Larson, a 2002 Pac-10 All-Freshman team selection, is recovering from a high ankle sprain on her right leg...she suffered this injury in practice Thursday, Aug. 28, but still played in the Cougar Challenge Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team...she did not travel with the team to Utah last weekend, staying in Pullman for rehabilitation...her ability to play in this weekend's Cougar Mania Tournament will be determined prior to the Friday night match...after the first three matches, Larson is averaging 10.64 assists per game, fifth-best in Pac-10 standings.
