Mia Jerkov Selected Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California junior Mia Jerkov has been selected Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 2-8, conference Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It is the third Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Jerkov and the 16th Player of the Week honor for Cal Volleyball all-time.
A 6-3 outside hitter from Split, Croatia, Jerkov was named tournament MVP and led the Bears (5-0) to the 2003 Colorado State Coors Classic title, defeating host Colorado State, 3-1, in the championship match last Saturday in Fort Collins, CO. It was the fourth consecutive regular season tournament won by Cal, and the fourth consecutive time Jerkov has earned tournament MVP honors, carrying over from the 2002 season.
Jerkov paced the Bears with 20 kills and a .327 hitting percentage against the Rams in the championship match. In Cal's second match of the tournament against Cal State Northridge, she recorded a team-high 30 kills and 18 digs, the seventh time in her career she has had 30 or more kills in a match. For the three tournament matches, Jerkov finished with 68 kills and 30 digs. She also had a .384 hitting percentage (68 kills, 12 errors, 146 attempts) for the tournament. Junior middle hitter Camille Leffall joined Jerkov as a member of the Coors Classic All-Tournament Team.
With the Bears' victories over Seton Hall, Cal State Northridge and Colorado State, Cal has now won 14 consecutive regular season tournament matches. The Bears will next host the Golden Bear Invitational, Thursday-Saturday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Teams participating in the tournament include - Cal, New Hampshire, Nevada and Cal Poly.
