Baker Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Sept. 9, 2003

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - -

Oregon State sophomore forward Tessa Baker was named the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week in women's soccer for the week ending Sept. 7, the conference announced Tuesday.

Baker, from Mission Viejo, Calif., led the Beavers with three goals and one assist in OSU's wins over San Francisco and Idaho last weekend, totaling seven points.

Baker nearly tallied a hat trick in OSU's 4-2 win over Idaho Sunday, scoring two goals in under 11 minutes in the second half and nearly notching a third on a 35-yard blast that remarkably hit the crossbar twice before being saved. Baker also equaled the school record with 10 shots.

In OSU's 3-1 win over USF Friday evening, Baker scored the final goal and assisted Janelle Joy's opening score.

The Player of the Week honor is the first of Baker's career and she is OSU's third all-time recipient.

Baker and the Beavers are back in action Friday as they take on No. 10 Duke at Wake Forest's adidas Tournament. OSU takes on Wake Forest Sunday.
