Washington Volleyball Wins Seventh Straight

POCETELLO, Idaho- The No. 18-ranked Washington volleyball team (7-0) extended its win-streak to seven matches this evening with a 3-0 sweep over Idaho State (6-3). With the 30-24, 30-14, 30-27 victory, UW is off to its best start since the 1987 season when the Huskies opened the year with a 9-0 record.
The Huskies used a balanced attack and a .315 hitting percentage to overpower the Bengals who hit just .104 as a team. Junior outside hitter Sanja Tomasevic (Uzice, Yugoslavia) led the offensive attack with 16 kills, while Brie Hagerty (Defiance, Ohio) added 10 kills and Kara Bjorklund (Olympia, Wash.) and Darla Myhre (Victoria, B.C.) each collected nine.
Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash.) sparked the Husky offense with 38 assists, which was eight more assists than ISU tallied combined.
Candace Lee (Eugene, Ore.) and Thompson anchored Washington's defense with 13 and 12 digs respectively, while Bjorklund had five blocks on the night.
Washington returns to action on Friday when it takes on Idaho to open the Idaho Tournament at 7 p.m. (MT). The Huskies will round out the weekend with a 5 p.m. (MT) match against Northern Arizona on Saturday.
