Cardinal Take Game One in Italian Tour

ROME, Italy - The Stanford women's basketball team downed S. Raffaele BBC 93-59 in the first game of their five-game, 12-day exhibition tour of Italy on Saturday. The Cardinal were led in scoring by junior forward Sebnem Kimyacioglu who contributed 24 points toward the Stanford victory.
Stanford exploded into the first quarter with a 15-2 lead in the opening seven minutes of play. S. Raffaele, a Division 2A professional team, was unable to score their first basket until after six and a half minutes passed on the clock, but then proceeded with an 11-2 run that dropped the Stanford lead to five (19-14).
The Cardinal opened the second half with a zone defense that left S. Rafaelle scoreless for five minutes and led to the Stanford 34-point win. Four Cardinal scored in double figures: Kimyacioglu (24), Azella Perryman (15), Chelsea Trotter (14) and Krista Rappahahn (13). Perryman led the squad with eight rebounds.
Stanford faces Gescom Viterbo, a Division 1A professional team, in Viterbo, Italy, on Sunday, Sept. 14.
