Arizona Head Coach John Mackovic's Remarks
On the loss at Purdue:
'Defensively, we did a lot of good things in the first half. We forced (Kyle) Orton to find his receivers, and our run defense allowed 3.6 yards in the first half. That big pass at the end of the first half really hurt us. But, we did a lot of really good things, and our tackling was improved significantly from the week before.'
'Offensively, we just didn't click very well. Ryan (O'Hara) was pressured, and he had two fumbles, which gave our defense terrible field position. We still had some running plays that could have given us opportunities for bigger plays, but we just couldn't gain any momentum.'
'Our punt coverage team covered the field very nicely. I was very pleased with that unit.'
On the three-way quarterback race:
'We have some ideas about what we are going to do, and we probably will announce a starter on Thursday. Kris Heavner will be available on Saturday, and he definitely is part of the mix. We will get there (naming a starter) when we get there. We have young quarterbacks, and that's just part of it.'
On true freshman quarterback Kris Heavner:
'Kris showed poise throughout. He had pressure, but he delivered passes right on the money. He did an incredible job of getting the ball to the right man and trying to make the throws that he could make. I am satisfied with his play for the little practice time that he had. He really showed something out there.'
'Darrell missed some practice time during the week, and so we thought it was more appropriate for Tony to start this week. Darrell played very well. Tony had a good game, and he has shown a lot of improvement.'
