Brie Hagerty Q&A
GoHuskies.com: Why did you decide to leave Ohio State and transfer to UW?
Brie Hagerty: 'I decided to come mainly because of Jim (McLaughlin). It was kind of funny how I got here. I was getting ready to pick up the phone and call another school and tell them that I was going there. Right as a picked up the phone, my mom called and said, `Don't call anyone. We have one more school to check out.' I had one more visit left and I thought I might as well. I played club volleyball with Carolyn Farny and she called me a couple of times. I came on my visit and I loved everything about it. I loved the system and the way they run the program.'
GH: What is it about coach McLaughlin that you like?
Hagerty: 'He is really personable and he treats everyone like an individual. He looks at your personality and your playing style and he molds you to the program here. It doesn't matter what kind of player you are, he can make you good in this program.'
GH: With the teams hot start you have to be happy with your decision to come here?
Hagerty: 'I am so happy. I couldn't imagine anything better. We are playing so well and hopefully we can keep it going. We just have to keep it going and take it one game at a time.'
GH: Did you know that the team was going to be this good?
Hagerty: 'I had high expectations, but I really didn't know how well things were going to be. I had only seen them play once. They did well last year and I knew they needed another outside hitter and hopefully I can do that. We have been playing beyond my expectations this year so far and I think it will continue.'
GH: How is the season going for you this year?
Hagerty: 'That is a tough question because I am my own toughest critic. I never think I play well, but I am taking it one game at a time.'
GH: What do you like to do off the court?
Hagerty: 'I like to rest. I like to play beach volleyball and hang out with friends. Most of my time is spent with volleyball, either playing volleyball or just with the players. We like to work on team camaraderie.'
GH: What kinds of things does the team do together?
Hagerty: 'We go out to dinner together or we will go support the other UW teams. We go to the football games together. We are planning on going to the basketball games. We have had unreal support from all the other athletes. We just want to show that back to them.'
GH: Do you have a favorite restaurant that the team likes to go?
Hagerty: 'Claim Jumper, we go there all the time. There is good food and they have a lot of choices.'
GH: Is there any one sport that you like to watch better than the others?
Hagerty: 'I like to go watch the soccer team because I really don't know what is going on. They have nice fans and it's fun to go to the game and cheer for them.'
GH: What do you guys do when you are not out getting dinner or attending games?
Hagerty: 'We just go out to each others house and watch movies, but we are usually in the gym or watching another event.'
GH: If you weren't playing volleyball what would you be doing?
Hagerty: 'I would probably just be going to school, maybe playing basketball at another college. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be a regular student.'
GH: Once you are done with volleyball at Washington, what are you going to do with all your free time?
Hagerty: 'I am hoping to go play pro in Europe. Even if it is not for a while, at least for a year, I would like to have the experience because I have never been out of the country. I think that would be fun.'
