No. 1 USC Sweeps Beavers
Sept. 26, 2003
LOS ANGELES - The No. 1 USC volleyball team hit .386 to defeat Oregon State in a 3-0 sweep at the Lyon Center on Friday night. The defending national champions beat the Beavers, 30-19, 30-25 and 30-13.
'USC is one of the best teams I've ever seen. They're just as good as they were last year, if not better,' said coach Nancy Somera. 'We were down a lot in game one and we made a little comeback, which was nice to see. We were right with them in game two, but we made way too many errors in game three.'
April Ross, who hit .400 with 11 kills for USC, was the only player on either team to finish with double-figure kills. Karah Rhoades led OSU for the second night in a row, this time finishing with eight kills. No other Beavers had more than six.
The Beavers (9-6, 0-4 Pacific-10) hit just .067 as a team. Setter Laura Collins hit a career-best .857 with six kills, but no other OSU players hit better than .077. Meanwhile, six players hit .400 or better for the Women of Troy (11-0, 2-0).
Rhoades also led the Beavers in digs, finishing with nine of OSU's 36 digs. Nicole Davis had a match-high 11 digs for USC, which finished with 40.
