Volleyball Cruises Past Oregon State, 3-0

LOS ANGELES - Senior April Ross contributed 13.5 points as the No. 1-ranked USC women's volleyball team defeated Oregon State, 3-0 (30-19, 30-25, 30-13), in front of 733 at the Lyon Center on Friday night. With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 11-0 overall and 2-0 Pac-10, while extending their match win streak to 23.
The Beavers dropped to 9-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Ross led the Trojans with 11 kills, in addition to nine digs, two blocks, a service ace and a .400 attack percentage. Teammates Bibiana Candelas (.500), Emily Adams (.700) and Staci Venski (.667) also made significant contributions, collecting eight, seven and four kills, respectively, while not committing a single error between the three.
Katie Olsovsky, who also hit .438 on the night, Candelas and Adams added four blocks apiece.
The Women of Troy took advantage of Oregon State's mistakes in game one. The Beavers committed 10 attack errors and three service errors as USC captured a 30-19 victory to start the night.
OSU reduced it errors and displayed its best performance of the night in game two. Matching each other point-for-point, the two teams reached a 16-16 tie before the Women of Troy slowly began to pull away. Converting down the stretch, the Women of Troy came out on top as Olsovsky, Ross and Adams pounded kills for the final points in a 30-25 decision.
The Trojans' blocking helped them earn a 30-13 win in game three. USC collected five of its nine total blocks in the final game, posted a .378 attack percentage and held the Beavers to a -.143 hitting mark.
USC finishes off the weekend against Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Lyon Center.
