Brandon Browner Named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week

Walnut Creek, Cal. - Tailback Adimchinobe Echemandu of California, cornerback Brandon Browner of Oregon State and safety Jeremy Bohannon of Washington State have been named Bank of America Higher Standards Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.
Echemandu, a senior from Hawthorne, Calif., played a key role in California's 34-31 triple overtime upset win against No. 3-ranked USC. Echemandu rushed 34 times for a career-high 147 yards. He added two receptions for 35 yards to account for 182 total yards. Echemandu became the first 100-yard rusher against USC in 17 games. The California offense put up 469 yards total offense, was good on 11-of-18 third-down conversion attempts. It marks the second time this season Echemandu has earned Pac-10 offensive player of the week honors.
Browner, a freshman from Sylmar, Calif., keyed Oregon State's defense in the Beavers' 45-17 win against Arizona State. Browner had three interceptions to go with four tackles, three solo. Included was one tackle for loss (-4), which came on a fourth-and-goal play from the OSU one-yard line. The Beaver defense forced six Arizona State turnovers and limited the Sun Devils to just 2-of-16 on third-down conversion attempts.
Bohannon, a junior from Richland, Wash., was one of many standout performers in Washington State's 55-16 win at No. 10-ranked Oregon. Bohannon turned a blocked punt into six points as he scooped it up and took it in for a touchdown from four yards out. Washington State blocked two Oregon punts in the game. It marks the third time this season that Washington State has had the Pac-10 special teams player of the week and the fifth overall player of the week honor in five weeks for the Cougars.
Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were receivers Reggie Williams of Washington, Sammy Moore of Washington State and James Newson of Oregon State, quarterbacks Drew Olson of UCLA and Kris Heavner of Arizona and tailback Hakim Hill of Arizona State. Also nominated on defense were backs Jason David of Washington State, Jason Shivers of Arizona State and Clay Hardt of Arizona and linebackers Marquis Cooper of Washington and Brandon Chillar of UCLA. Punters Danny Baugher of Arizona and Garth Erickson of Washington, kicker Justin Medlock of UCLA and return man Cole Clasen of Oregon State were nominated for special teams play.
