Sept. 30, 2003
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - USC freshman forward Rosa Anna Tantillo has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Tantillo, from San Diego, Calif., scored two goals and assisted on a third as No. 23 USC posted a 3-0 upset win at No. 13 Santa Clara on Sept. 26. It marked only the ninth home loss for the Broncos over the last six seasons and matched their worst loss in 12 years, equaling a 3-0 loss to Stanford last season.
Tantillo opened the scoring for USC in the sixth minute, scoring on a breakaway. Senior Jessica Edwards notched her fourth goal of the season off a pass from Tantillo in the 80th minute, giving the Trojans a 2-0 advantage. Tantillo added her second goal on a penalty kick in the 86th minute. It marked the second two-game goal of the season for Tantillo.
USC (4-3-3 overall), travels to Brigham Young on Friday, its final non-conference match before opening the Pac-10 slate at home with Washington on Oct. 9.
This is Tantillo's first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and USC's Pac-10-leading 16th weekly honor all-time.
