Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season At Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - Three singles players and three doubles teams will represent Washington women's tennis in the pre-qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, Sat., Oct. 4, through Sun., Oct. 5, at UCLA. This weekend marks the opening of the fall season for Husky tennis.

Senior Erin Hoe (Mililani, Hawaii), sophomore Dinka Hadzic (Split, Croatia) and freshman Saskia Nauenberg (Santa Cruz, Calif.) will take part in the 64-player singles draw. In the first round Saturday, Hoe is slated to face the ninth-seeded player from Texas Tech, Irina Tereschenko at 11:30 a.m. Nauenberg will make her collegiate debut, facing TCU's Paige Brown, also at 11:30 a.m. Hadzic will be up against Saber Pierce from TCU at 1 p.m.

The first round of the 32-team doubles draw will feature Hadzic and freshman Monika Kolbovic (Vancouver, B.C.) taking on Anna Bentzer and Tiffany Chang from UC Irvine at 4 p.m., Saturday. Hoe and Nauenberg will team up to face Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers from Tulsa at 3 p.m., while freshman Megan Flynn (Camas, Wash.) and sophomore Stephanie Svanfeldt (Belvedere, Calif.) will face Yannik Dullens and Suzana Maksovic from Denver also at 3 p.m.

Four singles players and four doubles teams will advance from this tournament to the qualifying tournament held Oct. 7-8 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. From there, eight players and four doubles teams will advance to the main draw held Oct. 9-12. Husky senior Claire Carter (Notthingham, England) will compete in the qualifying singles draw and will team with junior Dea Sumantri (Jakarta, Indonesia) as a duo in the doubles qualifying draw. Sumantri has already been selected to compete in the singles main draw.
