Cougars Hope To Prove Themselves In Tournament Against Pac-10 Foes

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State women's golf team travel across the state to Redmond, Wash., to compete in the 22nd Annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Tournament at the par-72 Sahalee Golf and Country Club, a 6,030 yard course...the first round will begin Monday, Oct. 6, and play through Wednesday, Oct. 8, with 18 holes of play each day.
The Field: The 15-team field will include: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Long Beach State, Nevada, Oregon, Oregon State, San Francisco, Southern California, Stanford, Washington, Washington State, UCLA, and UNLV.
Head Coach Walt Williams, On The 22nd Annual Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational And Team: 'This is a tough course and will be the strongest field we will face all year. So far the team has performed well, but we have not been able to find our top five players. It is still early, so at this point I am looking for improvement more than the overall finish and I think we're well on our way.'
WSU Women At The Edean Ihlanfeldt: This is the Cougars first appearance at the Edean Ihlanfeldt since the women finished 9th in 1997.
What Happened At The Idaho/Lady Vandal Invitational (Last Tournament): Jay-Lee Longbottom recorded her fifth career Top 10 finish with a tie for fifth place at 15 over...this marked Longbottom's 11th career Top 25 finish...Kim Welch tied with teammate Stephanie Parsley at 16 over for a 12th place finish...Welch recorded her 21st Top 25 career finish...WSU totaled 946 (+82) after three rounds and finished in a tie for fifth.
Head Cougars: Head coach Walt Williams is currently in his sixth season with the Cougars...in 2002, he led the women's team to a Top 10 finish at the NCAA West Regionals along with a finish in the Top 25 at the NCAA National Championship...three different golfers have been named All Pac-10 under the coaching of Williams...assistant coach Heather Holte is currently in her third season at WSU...Holte played golf at the University of Oregon, where she competed at the NCAA Regionals in 1995 and 1996...Holte is an amateur player at Oregon.
