UA Men's Tennis Has Strong Showing at ITA All-American

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Arizona men's tennis team completed play at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American, Friday, Oct. 3. The Wildcats won all six of their matches and all three men will compete in the third round Saturday Oct. 4.
Competing for Arizona were seniors Carl Hagman and Tom Lloyd and junior Paul Warkentin. In the round of 256, Hagman easily defeated Paul Newman of Ball State, 6-1, 6-1. Lloyd defeated Miha Lisac of Georgia State, 6-2, 7-5. Warkentin defeated Ikaika Jobe of St. Louis, 6-4, 7-5.
Later that afternoon, the Wildcats took the courts again for the round of 128. Hagman defeated Felipe Montenegro of Drake, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4). Lloyd defeated Eric Hechtman of Miami, 6-4, 6-1. Warkentin defeated Mark Edney of Arkansas Little Rock, 6-3, 6-2.
The victories raised Hagman's record to 5-1, while the wins were the first and second for both Lloyd and Warkentin who are now 2-0 on the season.
All three men are scheduled to compete in the round of 64 again Saturday, Oct. 4. Lloyd is scheduled to face Avery Ticer of Minnesota at 9 a.m. Hagman is set to face Jose Luis Lechuga of BYU at 10 a.m. and Warkentin is matched against Jose Luis Muguruza of Georgia Tech in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American in Chattanooga, Tenn.
