Women's Tennis Results From Pre-Qualifying Rounds of ITA All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Washington women's tennis players Erin Hoe, Dinka Hadzic and Saskia Nauenberg picked up first round singles wins but suffered second-round losses and were eliminated from tournament play during the pre-qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at UCLA, today.
Hoe earned a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set win over Irina Tereschenko from Texas Tech in the first round, but lost in the second round to Lauren Archer from Rice (3-6, 7-5, 3-1 ret.). Hadzic also won her first round match in straight sets, downing Saber Pierce from TCU, 6-1, 6-3, before falling victim to a straight-set loss to Daniela Muscolino from Tulsa. Nauenberg, making her collegiate debut, defeated Paige Brown from TCU, 6-4, 7-6 (1). Facing the top seed in the second round, she failed to score a point, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Vanderbilt's Audra Faulk.
The Husky doubles team competing in the pre-qualifying draw, Hadzic and Stephanie Svanfeldt, suffered a first round loss to Anna Bentzer and Tiffany Chang from UC-Irvine, 8-1.
Washington still has two players competing in the qualifying and main draw portions of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning Oct. 7. Husky senior Claire Carter will compete in the qualifying singles draw and will team with junior Dea Sumantri as a duo in the doubles qualifying draw. Sumantri has already been selected to compete in the singles main draw, Oct. 9-12.
