The Rankings
After entering the season at No. 1, the Women of Troy are holding on to the top spot. USC earned all 65 first-place votes to remain No. 1 on this week's USA Today/AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll. The Women of Troy also hold the top spot in the Volleyball magazine poll.

Charting the Streaks
USC has won its last 26 consecutive matches, 10 consecutive home matches and 74 of its last 77 consecutive games (and 43 of its last 44). The Trojans have also not dropped a road match since the 2001 season (a 3-1 loss at Stanford, 11/10/01). That's 25 consecutive wins on the road.

Former National Team Coaches Cross Paths
Friday's match versus Arizona State will pit two former Women's Volleyball National Team coaches against each other. USC head coach Mick Haley coached the U.S.A. for four years (1997-2000), just as ASU head coach Brad Saindon was guiding Australia's National Team. The two led their teams to unprecedented performances at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Haley led the U.S.A. to a fourth-place finish, while Saindon's team finished ninth.

And Then There Were Three...
Only three Division I women's volleyball teams remain unbeaten so far this season, and two of the three are Pac-10 teams. The teams include Georgia Tech (16-0), California (14-0) and USC (14-0).

Losing To The Trojans Is A Good Thing?!?!
So far this season opponents have found that losing to USC is not necessarily a bad thing. Of the six ranked opponents the Women of Troy have faced and beaten, three teams held on to their rankings the following week (#2 Hawai'i, #3 Florida, #13 Washington) and three teams moved up in the polls (Northern Iowa went from #8 to #6, Pepperdine jumped from #8 to #7 and UCLA moved from #9 to #8).

Knocking Down The Top Teams
The Women of Troy have faced six top 15 opponents (five in the top 10) this season and swept five of the six. With arguably the nation's toughest schedule, USC beat No. 2 Hawai'i (Aug. 22), No. 3 Florida (Aug. 21), No. 8 Northern Iowa (Aug. 30), No. 8 Pepperdine (Sept. 3) and No. 13 Washington (Oct. 4), all by 3-0 scores, and beat No. 9 UCLA (Sept. 19), 3-1.

Pac-10 Dominance
The Pac-10 continues to show why it is the most competitive volleyball conference in the nation. Five of the 10 Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 15 in the AVCA poll this week, including No. 1 USC, No. 4 Stanford, No. 8 UCLA, No. 9 California and No. 13 Washington. The West Coast Conference (Pepperdine, LMU, Santa Clara, San Diego, San Francisco) is next on the list with four teams ranked in the top 25.

Outstanding Numbers
USC is currently leading the Pac-10 in hitting percentage (.344), opponent hitting percentage (.108), kills (17.58) and assists per game (16.14). The Women of Try also rank fourth nationally in assists and hitting percentage, fifth in kills and sixth in blocks.

It's All About The Team
Just like last season, USC relies on a true 'team' effort to win matches. There is not just one go-to player for the Trojans, there's a team full of standouts all sharing responsibility. Currently, three players are averaging more than 3.0 kills per game (Emily Adams - 3.67, Keao Burdine - 3.54, April Ross - 3.37), three average more than 1.0 block per game (Adams-1.47, Bibiana Candelas-1.36, Katie Olsovsky-1.05), three average more than 2.5 digs per game (Nicole Davis - 3.55, Ross - 2.88, Burdine - 2.64) and three players are hitting above nearly .400 (Adams - .455, Candelas - .435, Olsovsky - .397).

Arizona State/Arizona Connections
* Juniors Alicia Robinson and Emily Adams both grew up in the Phoenix area. Robinson prepped at Central High and was the 2000 Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year. Adams prepped at Xavier College Prep where she was the 4A-5A Arizona Player of the Year as a senior. The two were club volleyball teammates throughout high school. They are also the daughters of well-known former Phoenix Suns, Truck Robinson and Alvan Adams.
* Arizona State has five players that hail from California.
* Arizona State head coach Brad Saindon coached the Australian Women's Volleyball National Team for four years (1997-2000) and competed at the 2000 Olympic Games, just as Mick Haley was guiding the United States.
* The Arizona Wildcats boast nine players from the state of California.
* Arizona head coach David Rubio and assistant coach Steve Walker both began their coaching careers in California. Rubio has coached at CS Bakersfield, CS Northridge and Granada Hills HS, while Walker coached at Westminister HS.

Washington State/Washington Recap
vs. Washington State
- USC needed just 65 minutes to complete a sweep at Washington State on Oct. 3. The Trojans accounted for only nine attack errors and hit at a .512 clip (ranks fourth among USC's all-time records). On the opposite side of the net, the Women of Troy held WSU to a -.030 percentage (the lowest for a USC opponent this season) and out-blocked the Cougars, 10.0 to 4.0. Displaying outstanding accuracy, the team was led by Bibiana Candelas, who collected seven kills off of eight attacks (.875), and Keao Burdine, who hit .818 with nine kills off of 11 attacks. Neither player made a hitting error on the night. No Cougar finished with more than five kills or six digs and WSU's 43 total points are the second-lowest for a 2003 USC opponent.

vs. Washington - Thanks to double-digit scoring from five players, USC defeated No. 13 Washington, 30-24, 30-27, 30-19, on Oct. 4. Bibiana Candelas enjoyed a second-straight error-free performance, hitting .545 thanks to team-best 12 kills off of 22 attacks. USC and Washington played even through the first half of game one, knotting the score nine times to an 11-11 tie. The Trojans used a four-point run to take a 15-11 lead and eventually earned the 30-24 win. The Huskies regrouped and came out even stronger in the second game, but despite UW's slight advantage in kills and blocks, it was USC's serve receive and passing that lifted the Trojans to a 30-27 win. USC took a quick five-point lead in the final game, then watched as the Huskies pulled within one at 11-10. But that was as close as UW would get. The Trojans used a 12-3 run to break away and capture the match with the 30-19 win.

News To Note
* USC hit at a .512 clip against Washington State (Oct. 3) - the fourth-best in program history.

* Bibiana Candelas set a career high with four aces against Centenary on Sept. 12 and Florida on Aug. 22.
* It took USC just one hour to defeat Centenary (Sept. 12), USC's shortest match this season.
* USC held Centenary to only six points in the opening game, the lowest opponent point total ever compiled against the Women of Troy in a single 30-point game.
* Emily Adams compiled a career-high .750 hitting percentage (15-0-20) against Ball State on Aug. 29.
* Bibiana Candelas had a career-high eight total blocks and seven block assists against Pepperdine (Sept. 3).

Head Coach Mick Haley
Mick Haley is in his third season as head coach of the Women of Troy. In 2002, he collected his fifth career national title (three NCAA Division I titles, two JC titles) just two years after arriving at Troy. Haley guided the Women of Troy to the program's first NCAA championship in more than 20 years and became just the second coach in NCAA history to win a national title at two universities (John Dunning is the other). Though hired in 1999 to replace former head coach Lisa Love, Haley completed his term as head coach of the U.S.A. Women's National Team before joining the Trojans in 2001. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he led the United States to an unexpected fourth-place finish. Haley coached Texas for 17 seasons (1980-1996) and led the Longhorns to two national championships. He boasts a 843-193-1 (.814) overall record, 592-142 (.807) NCAA Division I record and a 188-13 (.935) career conference mark.
