Mike Munoz Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 7, 2003
Walnut Creek - Junior forward Mike Munoz was named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. This is the first weekly honor for Munoz and the fifth all-time Player of the Week honor for California men's soccer.
Munoz, a Los Alamitos, Calif. Native, had a spectacular game on Sunay, in Cal's 3-1 win over arch-rival Stanford. He netted his second goal of the season in the 18th minute. A Bears tri-captain, Munoz capitalized on a Stanford defensive error to find a small space and blast a perfectly placed shot into the corner of the goal. Munoz added an assist on his day, and his third on the season, when he beat a collection of Stanford defenders on a long run. He slotted a pass on the right side to Kyle Navarro, who capped off the scoring in the 55th minute.
Overall, Munoz played a dominating game for the Bears, generating numerous scoring chances for his teammates. He is second on the team in points (7), shots (23) and shots on goal (11).
Also nominated were Ross Duncan of Oregon State, James Twellman of Stanford, Benny Feilhaber of UCLA, and Ty Harden of Washington.
