Men's Tennis Opens 2003 Fall Season This Week

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Washington men's tennis team opens the 2003 fall season this week, as junior Alex Vlaski heads to Chattanooga, Tenn., to compete in the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships, while the rest of the squad travels south to Fresno, Calif. for the Bulldog Tennis Classic.
Vlaski, the nation's fourth-ranked singles player, will compete in the singles main draw of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships, beginning Thurs., Oct. 9. Vlaski, the tournament's fourth-seeded player, is slated to face Uli Kiendl from South Florida at 10:30 a.m. ET. The competition runs through Sun., Oct. 12. Last year Vlaski advanced to the singles semifinal.
The remainder of the Washington squad will head to California for the Bulldog Tennis Classic hosted by Fresno State, Fri., Oct. 10, through Sun., Oct. 12.
The Huskies return five letterwinners from last year's squad that ended 2003 with a final national ranking of No. 12. UW posted an overall record of 18-6 and tied for sixth in the Pac-10 standings with a 2-5 conference mark. Washington has advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 the last three straight seasons.
