Vlaski Advances To Round of 16 At ITA All-American Championships

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Washington tennis player Alex Vlaski advanced to the Round of 16 at the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships, winning his first and second round matches today in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Vlaski, the tournament's fourth-seeded singles player, survived a three-hour, 20-minute marathon with Uli Kiendl from South Florida in the first round. Vlaski lost the first set, 7-6(2), but rebounded with a 7-6(4) win of his own in the second set. Vlaski won the third set, 4-1, when Kiendl retired due to injury.
The second round pitted fourth-ranked Vlaski against 23rd-ranked K.C. Corkery from Stanford. Vlaski pulled the straight-set victory, winning 6-3, 6-2. He will face Baylor's Benjamin Becker in the Round of 16, Fri., Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. ET. Becker is the nation's 17th-ranked singles player and the 14th-seed in the tournament.
The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships continue through Sun., Oct. 12. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be held Saturday, with finals to follow on Sunday.
