Oct. 12, 2003
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - After falling to #1 seed Bendikt Dorsch of Baylor four days ago, Conor Niland caught fire winning his next five matches to claim the ITA All-American consolation championship.
Niland, now 7-2 in singles competition on the year, defeated Pedro Rice of Pepperdine (7-6,6-3) in the final round. The Cal senior exhibited great maturity on the court, as he continually improved round after round to eventually take home the championship.
Niland and the rest of his teammates move on to next weekend's ITA Championship event in Eugene, Ore., where Niland will get another shot at bringing an ITA singles title back to Berkeley.
