No. 1 UCLA Dominates Fresno State, 5-0

Fresno, CA - UCLA dominated Fresno State, 5-0, Sunday afternoon in front of 3,034 fans at Fresno's Bulldog Stadium. Senior forward Matt Taylor (Irvine, CA/Irvine HS) scored two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on another as the top-ranked Bruins notched their eighth consecutive victory.
The Bruins put the game away early with three first-half goals. Taylor put the Bruins on the board quickly with a five-yard strike at the 8:30 mark. Senior Cliff McKinley added his first goal of the season just four minutes later with a 10-yard blast from the top of the box. Adolfo Gregorio was credited with the assist. Freshman defender Brandon Owens registered his first career goal at 42:31 off a header from a John Carson corner kick.
UCLA scored two more in the second half. Freshman forward Chad Barrett headed in a Taylor cross at 68:41, and Taylor scored again at 70:32 with a shot from five yards out. The goal was his 10th of the year.
All three Bruin goalkeepers shared in the shutout, UCLA's eighth of the year. Senior Zach Wells started the game and picked up the victory. He was never tested in the game, making zero saves. Sophomore Nate Pena started the second half and made one save in 26 minutes, and redshirt freshman Eric Reed made two saves in 19 minutes.
UCLA will host California and Stanford at home next weekend. UCLA and Cal will face off on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 pm at Drake Stadium. A rematch of the 2002 NCAA Championship game will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 pm at Drake Stadium when UCLA and Stanford battle. The game will be televised on a delayed basis by College Sports TV (CSTV) on Monday, Oct. 20 at 7 pm.
