WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-CALIFORNIA outside hitter Mia Jerkov has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 5-Oct. 12, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Jerkov, a junior from Split, Croatia, led Cal to a pair of victories by collecting 65 kills (6.50 kpg) on 144 attempts with 26 errors, hitting .271 for the week. In the win against No. 14 Santa Clara, she had 34 kills, tallied three service aces and had one block . Against No. 4 Stanford, Jerkov paced Cal with 31 kills, on 56 attempts with 11 errors to hit .357 for the match. She also added 12 digs, four aces, and two blocks.

Cal's victory against Stanford not only was the first over the Cardinal in Pac-10 play, but it also snapped a 40-match losing streak to Stanford as well. Jerkov has led Cal to 16-0 overall mark and a 7-0 record in Pac-10 play. This week the Golden Bears play host to the UCLA and Southern California. The Saturday match against the Women of Troy could be a battle of the unbeaten, and a victory could give one team sole possession of first place in the Pac-10.

Jerkov has now been named Pac-10 player of the week for the third time this season. She is now the career leader in Player of the Week honors among all active Pac-10 players with five. It's Cal's 18th Player of the Week all time.
